Parma has consolidated itself as an Italian stage for great women’s tennis. From 2021 to today, players from all over the world have had the opportunity to compete in one of the most fascinating clubs in Italy, the Parma Tennis Club, praised by all the athletes for the spectacular scenery and the surface of the clay courts, equivalent to that of Roland Garros.
The first edition was held in May 2021 and saw the extraordinary participation of the legendary Williams sisters and the now Slam champion Coco Gauff, then 17 years old who won her second WTA title in Parma.
The second edition, held in September 2022, confirmed the success of the event, attracting numerous Top 50 players to Parma, first of all the Greek former world no.3 Maria Sakkari, beaten in the final by the Egyptian Mayar Sherif.
The third edition, in September 2023, proclaimed the winner Ana Bogdan, current n.67, who managed to capture the affection of the public with her love for the city.
The ‘Parma Ladies Open’ tournament returns in 2024 on its original date, placing itself in the second week of the most important tournament in Italy, the WTA 1000 in Rome. The Parma stage will serve as a bridge for the participating athletes between the red clay of Rome and that of Paris, allowing the tennis players to prepare for Roland Garros.
Over the years the tournament has been supported by iconic partners such as Barilla, Porsche and other large local companies. From 2022, the tournament is presented by Title Sponsor Iren.
